James is a multi-disciplinary theatremaker, actor and facilitator. He is a founding member of The Wardrobe Ensemble and joint course leader of the company's Acting & Devised Theatre BA at Bristol School of Acting. 

As part of The Wardrobe Ensemble, James has devised and performed in Robin Hood: Legend of the Forgotten Forest (Bristol Old Vic); WINNERS (Theatre on the Downs); The Last of the Pelican Daughters (UK Tour); Education, Education, Education (UK Tour, Trafalgar Studios); The Wind in the Willows (Royal & Derngate, Corby Cube); Eloise and the Curse of the Golden Whisk (Bikeshed Theatre); 1972: The Future of Sex (UK Tour); 33 (US and UK Tour); RIOT (US & UK Tour, National Theatre).

Other performer/deviser credits include: Moby Dick (Simple8/ Royal & Derngate); International House of Vape: Redefining Theatre Experience (Underbelly, Edinburgh Fringe); The Flower (Oxford Playhouse); Maggot Moon (The Unicorn); Rocky: A Horror Show (The Wardrobe Theatre). 

He has developed work with Simon McBurney, BREACH, Max Percy & Friends, Nigel & Louise, Willy Hudson, Theatre Ad Infinitum, Marcus du Sautoy, Why This Sky, Kismet, Alex Robins & ThisEgg.
